What is the first image that comes to your mind when you hear the word ‘Consultant’?
In this corporate environment where hierarchy holds weight, age equals authority and the little greys in your hair denote experience, I run a consulting firm that specialises in high level organisation transformation. I am a girl. I wear braces. I have red streaks in my hair. I am 27 years old.
Being a young girl in an industry dominated by experienced men and women isn’t easy. As a consultant, especially while consulting for the senior management of organisations, everyday is a new challenge.
So, how do I get people to take me seriously?
I refuse to give in to stereotypes. I work harder than others to keep my expert value high. I am constantly learning and growing. I am confident in my ability to consult and run my business. I relentlessly provide high quality service. I ensure that I stay a few steps ahead of my competition. I prove myself day in and day out.
Forge ahead with confidence, drive, and hard work, and no stereotype can ever hold you back!
